I’m putting this one up again after a conversation about the photograph with a friend who’s very thoughtful about this stuff. He said, and I agree, that the brightness of the bush contrasted too sharply with the dark in the rest of the photograph, and that I might have adjusted the power of the flash accordingly. Still, I think there’s something to the claustrophobic aesthetic here. The bush looks rather like a greedy child caught with a hand in the cookie jar, the street-lamp like a stern parent.
